FAQ's about the Pre-Cast Cropper
What size pile does it suit?
Square pre-cast piles from 300mm to 500mm. The Pre-Cast 400 takes 300mm to 400mm, the Pre-Cast 500 takes 350mm to 500mm.
Is it suitable for square or octagonal piles?
Square piles within those size limits.
What machine does it need?
A 6 tonne excavator or larger, running 90 to 180 litres per minute at up to 275 bar. On most sites that means the cropper runs off a machine already there.
How much of the pile does it take off in one crop?
Around 250mm per pass. Deeper cut-offs are done in successive passes down the pile.
How many reinforcement bars can it handle?
The Pre-Cast 400 is built for piles with four or more bars. The blades cut past the reinforcement to the centre of the pile rather than stopping at the bars.
Does it damage the pile below the cut?
No. It cuts cleanly and does not fracture the pile below cut level, which is the difference between cropping and breaking.
Can the concrete and reinforcement be recycled?
Yes. The concrete comes away from the steel rather than being broken off it, so the two separate on site.
Is it easy to move around site?
The Pre-Cast 400 weighs 550kg and the Pre-Cast 500 weighs 575kg, so both shift easily between pile positions.
